Leah Perry is the Vice President of Legal, Chief Privacy Officer, and Global Head of Public Policy at Box, Inc., a cloud content management and file sharing company with more than 97,000 business. Ms. Perry possesses over 20 years of experience working as an attorney in the private and public sectors on global privacy, cybersecurity, technology (tech), and international trade legal matters, as well as leading successful global regulatory and public policy programs. Over the past 10 years, Ms. Perry has worked as a senior attorney in the tech and financial services industries supporting efforts to bring various products to market (e.g., Meta’s Portal, Messenger Kids, Box Sign and Box AI). Ms. Perry also worked on an array of multibillion-dollar mergers and acquisitions.
Ms. Perry is currently Vice President of Legal, Chief Privacy Officer and Global Head of Public Policy at Box, Inc., a SaaS company serving over 70% of all Fortune 500 companies, foreign, domestic, and local governments. In her role, Ms. Perry is responsible for privacy legal and compliance, regulatory and public policy matters impacting the company globally. She is also responsible for the creation, implementation, and management of the company’s Artificial Intelligence (“AI”) Governance Program. Ms. Perry directly briefs Members of the Board regarding the AI Governance Program, which supported efforts to bring Box AI to market. As the AI regulatory landscape continues to evolve Ms. Perry manages the company’s readiness and policy positions by engaging lawmakers and regulatory bodies globally.
Ms. Perry previously served as Associate General Counsel – Privacy Legal & Compliance at Meta (formerly Facebook), Senior Director of Legal – Regulatory & Chief Privacy Officer at Change Healthcare, and Associate General Counsel – Chief Privacy Officer at S&P Global (formerly McGraw Hill). Ms. Perry also served for 9 years in the United States (U.S.) Congress as Chief Investigative Counsel and Chief Oversight Counsel, respectively, for the Senate Committee on Indian Affairs and House Committee on Oversight & Government Reform. Prior to that she served as the late-Congressman Elijah E. Cummings’ Legislative Counsel, was a Lecturer at Morgan State University and was an International Policy Commentator on WEAA 88.9 FM.
Ms. Perry has authored an array of publications and is regularly featured in various webinars and conferences as a thought leader on AI, privacy, cybersecurity, and technology law matters such as, Information Security Magazine, Informatique News in France, Vanguard, and Modern Counsel. Nominated by the Governor of Maryland, Ms. Perry serves as Chairwoman of the state’s Consumer Protection Commission. Recently, Ms. Perry led the charge to successfully create the forthcoming Privacy, Cybersecurity and Technology Law section of the National Bar Association.
Ms. Perry was awarded Who’s Who in America, and Who’s Who Top Lawyers. She was a Guest Lecturer at Columbia University Master’s Program in International Affairs and taught on AI from an international and comparative law lens. Ms. Perry previously was an International Association of Privacy Professional’s instructor on China’s Cybersecurity Law, as well as the European Union’s General Data Protection Regulation. Ms. Perry earned her LL.M. in (advanced) Public International Law from Leiden University Faculty of Law located in The Hague, Netherlands. She was awarded her J.D. from University of Iowa College of Law (graduated early) and A.B. in History from Vassar College.
